Best of P.I.D. Radio: Dr. Michael Heiser — The Divine Council (Part 1)

BECAUSE DEREK is recording an interview for this coming weekend tonight, we present a pair of shows from the archive, the first of a two-part interview with Dr. Michael Heiser on his research into the Divine Council.

This is P.I.D. 101, a primer in the nature of the spiritual war in which we find ourselves. To wit:

  • What is the Divine Council?
  • What implications does the Divine Council model have for Christian theology?
  • How does this affect our lives?

In a nutshell, the Divine Council is the group of divine beings — seraphim, cherubim, and malakim — who make up the court of God. It’s referenced most notably in I Kings 22:19-23 and Psalm 82.

The rebellion of the fallen angels has taken place in several stages:

  • The “serpent” in Eden;
  • The Watchers of Genesis chapter 6, whose interaction with human women produced the Nephilim;
  • The seventy “sons of God” (bene elohim) who were placed over the nations after the incident at the Tower of Babel.

Those 70 bene elohim became the gods of the nations around the ancient Hebrews: Marduk, Molech, Chemosh, Baal, Asherah, Dagon, and the rest. They are still with us, and their goal is the destruction of mankind.

In addition to his biblical studies, Mike is the author of The Facade, a mind-blowing novel that includes his research in great detail. It’s a great read, and he includes a bibliography with some great sources for further study.

    Thank you for this archive. I’ve been been researching this Divine Council since hearing Mr. Heiser speak about it a few years ago and I must say that my studies of this have opened up a whole new way of looking at the Biblical records. Thanks for this recording and know that I’m anxiously awaiting the second part of this interview with Dr. Heiser. I would love to hear what is current in Dr. Heiser’s research. Since these shows are from 2006 is there any chance of having him on PID Radio any time soon for an update? Thanks for all that you both do and may God bless you both.

    In fact, Alan, we’re trying to set up another interview with Mike in the near future. I want to set aside ufology and focus on the theology this time.

    Thank you, and I hope that Dr. Heiser will be available, hopefully for more than one session with y’all (my Texas is showing) since he has so much critical information to share. Please put this request from me on your list of questions for Dr. Heiser; “Dr. Heiser, letting the Hebrew and Greek text speak for itself, tell us about the 24 elders and the 4 beasts in Revelation Ch.4-6 that are before the throne of God?”. Personally I lean very heavily towards a 6th seal rapture, however NOT the pre-wrath view held by Marvin Rosenthal. After many MANY years and countless hours of study on this I lean more towards the red moon and earthquake resurrection views held by Peter Goodgame (http://redmoonrising.com)and David Lowe (http://www.earthquakeresurrection.com). The 6th seal view in my mind and studies doesn’t in any way negate a 6th seal pre-trib rapture and I don’t think those elders are the church. Neither can I find anything in my studies that categorically links the breaking of the first seal to the start of the 7 years of tribulation as is commonly taught. I’ve rambled long enough but these subjects are really important stuff, at least to me. I wish I had someone here who was interested in researching this view and talking about it but I mostly get the cold shoulder when I even dare question the status quo.

    All my love and God bless you both. I love Love LOVE your shows!
    Alan
