WE DON’T mean human blood. God was pretty clear on shedding the precious bodily fluids of our brothers and sisters. But the shed blood of Jesus of Nazareth, which is the key to the Christian faith, is missing from most churches today. That’s why it’s so easy to be distracted by leadership conferences with big name speakers and ecumenical movements that preach tolerance, reconciliation, and good works.
That’s how guys like Tony Blair, former British PM, (presumably) former New Ager, recent convert to Roman Catholicism, and head of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, Bono, the lead singer of iconic rock band U2, and former presidential adviser David Gergen got invited to address Willow Creek Community Church’s 15th annual leadership conference this past weekend, speaking to 7,000 people at Willow Creek and thousands more by video link to another 135 churches across the U.S. and Canada.
