WE TEND not to be alarmists when it comes to Christian persecution. We’ve had a pretty good run in the United States over the last couple centuries.
But things have shifted in recent years and it’s getting ugly. Think what you will of Kim Davis (the Clerk of Rowan County, Kentucky, who has refused to comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling on same-sex marriage and issue marriage permits to gay couples), some of the criticism she’s received is chilling–for example, equating her actions with sharia law.
Lest we forget, the Islamic State marked the Supreme Court’s ruling by throwing four gay men off a rooftop and tweeted the pictures under the hashtag #lovewins. THAT is what sharia looks like. And frankly, some supporters of same-sex marriage are getting close to advocating sharia-type penalties for people who don’t share their worldview.

AN UGLY scenario is playing out in Iraq. An al-Qaeda linked group, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), has essentially invaded Iraq from Syria and is on the verge of launching a battle for Baghdad. News reports from the region depict ISIS as a brutal terror organization, leaving a trail of beheaded bodies in its wake.
But until recently, we in the West were sending these guys money and weapons to help them fight against the government of Bashar al-Assad in Syria. What in the world is going on over there?
Also: Turkey shuts off the Euphrates River; child immigrant crisis along America’s southern border; Ebola and chikungunya spreading; and meet the exorcists next door.

WELL, WE’VE SURVIVED the Mayan Doomsday. So we begin the first day of the rest of the aeon with a look back at the Newtown, Connecticut shootings.
For the record, Derek was not advocating giving toy guns to boys, he was just making a point: Boys have played at war for millennia and the vast majority never grew up to commit mass murder. It’s a spiritual thing, not a firepower thing.

IT APPEARS that regardless of who wins the United States presidential election nine days from now, our drone war against suspected terrorists (and anyone within an acceptable radius, from a collateral damage standpoint) will continue without interruption.
The CIA wants more drones and more places to launch them, the White House will still have a secret capture/kill list, and if you dare question the moral or constitutional justification for killing four-year-old girls over there to limit the possibility that four-year-old girls here get killed, well, you’re “a horrible moron.”
Also: Fiscal cliff ahead; head of Bank of England admits that banks don’t have enough capital; Sandy takes aim at East Coast; and something falls into a Mexican volcano.
Forgive us — we forgot to come back to the creepy story of the drone that “started its engine without any human direction, even though the ignition had been turned off and the fuel lines closed. Technicians concluded that a software bug had infected the ‘brains’ of the drone, but never pinpointed the problem.” Obviously, there’s a Cylon in your future.

SOMETIMES WE come across stories that seem important and connected, but we just can’t get our minds completely around them. Try these on for size.
- Lord James of Blackheath, whom you might remember for his “Foundation X” speech in 2010 (link opens YouTube video), stated in the House of Lords Thursday (2/16) that he’s been investigating for the last two years an attempted fraud or money laundering scheme, possibly involving the government of the U.S. or the Federal Reserve Bank, in the neighborhood of $15 trillion. (The 2012 budget of the United States, by comparison, is about $3.8 trillion.)
- Eight people were arrested in Italy Friday (2/17) in possession of $6 trillion in counterfeit U.S. bonds. That’s double the size of Italy’s national debt (and again, nearly double the annual budget of the U.S.).
- A quick look through Google News reveals a number of arrests for trafficking in large quantities of counterfeit U.S. government bonds ($134 billion in Italy, $875 billion in Malaysia, $2 trillion in the Philippines, etc.) over the past ten years.
If we assume that some counterfeiters actually get away with their crimes, we have to wonder: How much phony U.S. debt is out there? How much of it is in the hands of supposedly stable financial institutions? Is any of it actually being circulated intentionally by those institutions? And how does that affect the state of the global economy?
The mind reels.

]]>Meanwhile, Foreign Policy, the official magazine of the Council on Foreign Relations, has published an expose of a false flag operation by the Mossad in which Israeli intelligence operatives posing as CIA agents recruited (Sunni) Pakistani terrorists to strike at (Shia) Iran’s nuclear program. In other words, it appears that Israel may have wanted to draw the US into a war by prompting Iran to retaliate against American assets. In response, a joint military exercise between Israel and the US scheduled for spring as apparently been canceled.

Kim Jong Zilla
DEAR LEADER has shuffled off this mortal coil. 69-year-old Kim Jong Il, the, uh, eccentric dictator of North Korea, died over the weekend, reportedly of a heart attack. The question now is whether a fight over Kim’s succession will follow. Unstable governments with nuclear weapons are not exactly the stuff of pleasant dreams.
Also: Eric Holder accused of a coverup linked to the Oklahoma City bombing; Operation Fast & Furious possibly a CIA op; ICE prepares for “mass migration”; and a mysterious white web found growing on nuclear waste in South Carolina.
Note: The allegation that Attorney General Holder was responsible for authorizing the supply of explosives to Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols may be part of a disinformation campaign. The accusation can not be verified at this time. See here and here.

THAT’S WHAT the global elites seem to be about. A member of the Greek parliament alleges that Prime Minister George Papandreou presided over the sale of credit default swaps on Greek sovereign debt to a government-owned bank. This is essentially like Pete Rose betting against the Reds while he was the manager. This type of behavior goes a long way toward explaining the global economic crisis: it’s a rigged game to transfer wealth to the banking elite.
