P.I.D. Radio 7/31/11: From Future Congress to Super Congress

AS WE record this on the afternoon of July 31, 2011, the U.S. Congress is wrangling over details of a compromise to raise the federal debt ceiling. Several news sources report that part of the deal includes the creation of a new twelve-member panel, six Democrats and six Republicans representing both houses of Congress, that would have the power to create fast-track legislation — bills that could be voted on by the full houses of Congress, but could not be filibustered or amended.

Well, why not. If the president can order hits on American citizens without oversight of any kind then anything is constitutional.

VENEZUELA’S PRESIDENT Hugo Chavez is in critical condition at a hospital in Cuba. No word at this hour on how critical or how this affects geopolitics in the Western Hemisphere.

IT WAS a surprise to learn this week that the Department of Education has SWAT teams at its disposal. Don’t worry, though; they say they won’t break down your door at 6:00AM for late payments on your student loan.

Is it unpatriotic to ask why on God’s green Earth the Education Department has weapons?

Also: Bilderberg 2011 in Switzerland; Libyan conflict really about oil; pedophile ring based in Bloomington, Indiana (see Dave McGowan’s disturbing article, The Pedophocracy); and a superbug turns up in the military hospital at Bagram.

P.I.D. Radio 5/29/11: Tyranny By Autopen

THE PATRIOT Act was extended just before it expired Friday when President Obama signed the bill by autopen from France. This just strikes us as odd. While we have no doubt that it won’t make a bit of difference — any more than the president’s clumsily forged birth certificate — we have to wonder why an autopen was used instead of just emailing the document and printing a copy for the president to sign his own self.

Also: Netanyahu’s speech declared “an act of war”; Chinese prisoners forced to play World of Warcraft for prison guards; study shows Roman Catholics and born-again Christians with smaller brains than mainline Protestants; and Judge Andrew Napolitano asks when our peaceful republic became a police state (link opens video at YouTube).

PFC. BRADLEY Manning has been kept in solitary confinement for most of 2010, allowed only one hour a day out of his cell even though he hasn’t yet been tried and convicted of a crime. Is Manning a patsy, a convenient excuse to criminalize investigative journalism and a clampdown on the Internet? See Glenn Greenwald’s column on the treatment of Bradley Manning at Salon.com.

THAT’S THE question of the day. Our federal government asserts the authority to tell us what to feed our children (and then do it for us), to buy health insurance for the privilege of breathing, and to assassinate American citizens without due process of law or oversight by Congress or the Judicial Branch.

When the president claims the right to kill citizens who pose a threat to national security and then his wife declares fat kids a national security threat, why are we even arguing over who gets to marry who?

Also: Obama admits we’re in Afghanistan until 2014 at least; Army set to award mega-contract to train Afghan police; LA nuke “a survivable event; and Kosovo leader tied to black market in human organs.

P.I.D. Radio 11/19/10: They’re Watching You

APPARENTLY IT’S not enough to scan us at airports, sporting events, or while we’re driving around town, the government is enlisting our banks, ISPs, and childrens’ bus drivers in the total surveillance state. It feels like the elites are trying to provoke us.

REBELLION AGAINST the full-body X-ray scanners at American airports continues to grow. Apparently fighting terror in the air means a choice between risking skin cancer or a sexual assault by a TSA employee.

Also: media continues to sell the “missile was a plane” meme; the first study of links between pesticides and disappearing bees ready to begin; and big money backs a treatment for smallpox — which the World Health Organization declared eradicated more than 30 years ago!
