SERIAL KILLERS and artificial intelligence highlight P.I.D. Radio’s return after a 13-month hiatus.

A researcher has developed an algorithm to study the habits and status of serial killers. After analyzing the data, he estimates that as many as 2,000 of them may be roaming the streets in the United States.

The only thing more disturbing is the news that a professor at the University of Southern California is programming an artificial intelligence with the thought patterns of the notorious Zodiac Killer, who may have killed 28 people in northern California in the late ’60s and early ’70s. The professor hopes to crack the unsolved cold case by training the computer to think like the killer, who was never caught, but the AI is starting to write Zodiac-style poetry.

What can possibly go wrong?

Threat or viral marketing?

A CREEPY new video featuring a hooded character, dressed like a medieval plague doctor, presents a dark puzzle that apparently threatens U.S. President Barack Obama. As of today, nobody seems to know who created the video and what it really means.

P.I.D. Radio 7/20/13: The Amazing Colossal Virus

BIOLOGISTS THIS week announced the discovery of a giant virus, up to ten times larger than most. The supersized virus, named Pandoravirus, is thought to be the biggest ever found.

Interestingly, researchers say that “only 6% of its genes resembled genes seen before in other organisms on Earth.” Of course, one of the researchers added that means the virus — wait for it — may have come from another planet, such as Mars.

Also: Massacre in Afghanistan linked to anti-malarial drug; Vatican offers indulgences to followers of the Pope’s tweets; massive solar eruption shoots past Earth; Google Glass hacked for spies; and the NSA inserts its own code into Android OS — meaning 3/4 of all smart phones.

WHILE IRISH people (in the U.S., anyway) celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, we look back to 3/13/13 and the election of Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio as the new head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis I. Even Catholic observers are not entirely certain whether his name refers to Francis of Assisi, founder of the Franciscan Order, or Francis Xavier, co-founder of the Society of Jesus — the Jesuits.

IT’S BEEN an odd week. Following the surprise announcement of Pope Benedict’s resignation, a spectacular fireball streaked across the Siberian sky, injuring some 1,200 people when the meteorite exploded in the atmosphere with the force of about 30 Hiroshima bombs.

Besides that, a geneticist issued a statement claiming that she had solid DNA proof of the existence of a novel primate species: Homo sapiens cognatus — AKA Bigfoot.

Also: Killer asteroid in 2106 (or not, depending on who you believe); Pope appoints member of Knights of Malta to head Vatican bank; a seat for the Vatican at King David’s tomb; “Blade Runner” charged with murder; new outbreak of bird flu in Mexico; black magic in Africa; and Radford University offers independent study in necromancy.

IN A move that surprised casual observers, Pope Benedict XVI announced today that he is resigning the papacy effective February 28, 2013. The last pope to resign, rather than die in office, was Gregory XII in 1415, in the midst of a crisis known as the Great Western Schism.

What does this mean for the Roman Catholic Church? And how does this relate to the so-called Prophecy of the Popes, attributed to the 12th-century Irish monk St. Malachy?

A 900-year-old prophecy attributed to Máel Máedóc Ua Morgair, better known to us as St. Malachy, appears to point to the line of popes ending with the successor to Pope Benedict XVI. Furthermore, there is evidence that suggests that this Petrus Romanus, or Peter the Roman, may be the False Prophet John wrote about in the Book of Revelation.

Cris Putnam and Tom Horn join us to discuss their forthcoming book, Petrus Romanus: The FINAL Pope is Here. They tell us why they began to take the prophecy of St. Malachy seriously, the evidence that lends it credence, and what it means in light of reports that Pope Benedict may not live out the year.

SCIENTISTS ARE reportedly panicking over the disturbing discovery that the rate of radiological decay isn’t constant. It appears to fluctuate on a 33-day cycle, which, maybe not coincidentally, corresponds to the rotation of the Sun’s core.

What does this mean? Well, for one thing, all those dinosaur bones may be a lot newer (or older) than we think. Also, according to one account, it may mean that time itself is speeding up — giving a new meaning to the term “the quickening”. (See also this account at Discover News.)

Also: the royal wedding; the beatification of John Paul II; Obama’s birth certificate; the Family Research Council joins forces with the New Apostolic Reformation (correction: Tony Perkins is president of the FRC, not the American Family Association as Derek said during the show); and Rick Joyner hints at a new Spartan-like group of activists called “300” (see the linked clip beginning at about 16:50).

ONE of the highlights of Michael Jackson’s unparalleled career sets the tone for tonight’s show: while the world watched Michael’s memorial, the Pope published an encyclical recommending a world economic authority to redistribute wealth (just in time for the G8 meeting in Italy); Israel agreed to a two-state solution to the Palestinian matter; and the U.S. accused North Korea of a cyber-attack.

P.I.D. Radio 6/26/09: Lost in Translation

FRIDAY has come and gone in Rome, and there was no press conference today by Patriarch Abune Paulos to reveal the Ark of the Covenant, or about anything else for that matter. The hotel where the conference was supposed to take place says nothing was ever scheduled.

However, read the account of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts chapter 8. Is it possible that the eunuch was on a diplomatic mission to Jerusalem to return the Ark to the Messiah? Interesting speculation.

Also, read the prophetic verses of Isaiah 18. Could this be a reference to the United States (“a nation, tall and smooth, …a people feared near and far, a nation mighty and conquering, whose land the rivers divide”) and the current infestation of locusts (“whirring wings”) in Ethiopia? We don’t know, but again, it’s interesting speculation.

Plus: Congress passes cap and trade; President Obama suggests limiting health care for the terminally ill; and disgraced charismatic faith healer Todd Bentley is apparently “restored” enough from last year’s adulterous affair to resume his ministry.

IT MAY BE just a coincidence, coming as it does the weekend of the G8 summit in Italy next month, but we couldn’t help noticing that President Obama, whose campaign was filled with messianic imagery, will meet with Pope Benedict just about 3-1/2 years to the day before the end date of the Mayan calendar (12/21/12).

Also: it appears the Ark of the Covenant will stay hidden; a Jewish/Muslim interfaith movement to build the Third Temple; Rick Warren addresses a conference of North American Muslims; still no nukes in London (and no apology from the Telegraph); more hangings in Bridgend; and the new game in South Carolina: Where in the World is Governor Mark Sanford?
