SOMETHING HAS changed in the last couple of years, and it feels as though we in the United States–and maybe the nations of the world in general–are on the downward side of a spiritual tipping point. Another mainline Christian denomination has just affirmed homosexual marriage, and earlier this year business owners in New Mexico and Colorado were told they had to provide services for ceremonies against their wishes, even though they believe gay marriage is contrary to scripture.
Meanwhile, transhumanism continues to move into the mainstream. The worldview of the transhumanist movement, to put it simply, is 180 degrees from that of Christianity.
And the situation in the Middle East continues to take a heavy toll on the oldest Christian communities in the world. At least the mainstream media has finally taken notice that areas evangelized in the first century have basically been cleansed of Christians — by militants armed by the United States and its allies.

OF ALL the people in the major media, we really didn’t expect MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann to report this story, which was leaked to the New York Times and the Washington Post back on April 7. In short, the Obama administration has claimed the right to assassinate American citizens with no oversight or due process of any kind.
Glenn Greenwald of Salon.com spells it out:
Here again, we see one of the principal and longest-lasting effects of the Obama presidency: to put a pretty, eloquent, progressive face on […] indefinite detention, military commissions, “state secrets” used to block judicial review, an endless and always-expanding “War on Terror,” immunity for war criminals, rampant corporatism — and now unchecked presidential assassinations of American citizens…
Which is why we consider the Obama presidency the third term of George W. Bush.

THE MEDIA is calling the group rounded up in Michigan over the weekend a Christian militia. A few minutes on the website of the Hutaree is enough to show that this group represents Christ no more than Britney Spears represents the Mickey Mouse Club.
Still, that’s the meme we’ve heard for the last couple of years: angry white (Christian) men are a threat to the republic because they can’t deal with people who are different.
Sadly, some of us fall for that bait and really do get angry; others turn away from Christ’s prime directive to preach the gospel and make disciples, and instead try to make politics their ministry. Either way, we’ve been diverted from our true mission which is exactly what the powers and principalities want.
Also: Egypt, Babel, and Eridu; the numbers of the health care bill; terror in Moscow; Israel training for…something; more theopolitical rallies with evangelicals and New Apostles; and the World Wildlife Fund hopes to find billions growing on trees.
