P.I.D. Radio 3/16/14: Crimea River

THE US and EU wasted no time in condemning the referendum in Crimea. According to reports from the area, nearly 80% of voters in the region turned out and over 90% voted in favor of seceding from Ukraine and rejoining Russia.

The reaction of American and European leaders is ironic, considering that President Obama has defended the assassination of American citizens without due process, unrestricted NSA spying, and military action in support of the rights of Afghans, Iraqis, Libyans, and South Sudanese to determine their own political futures.

We also discuss the still-missing Flight 370, Fred Phelps, Sr. of Westboro Baptist Church, and where the research for our presentations for the Orlando Prophecy Summit has taken us over the last month. The summit is March 28-30, 2014, and it features Gary Stearman, Chuck Missler, L.A. Marzulli, Jonathan Cahn, Bill Salus, L.A. Marzulli, Russ Dizdar, Cris Putnam, and many more.

WE MISS Doctor Future and Tom Bionic.

Oh, we know they’re out there, and we have communicated with them from time to time since they hung up their headphones in February of 2012 after seven years and some 300 programs. FutureQuake was one of the best and most thoughtful programs on the web, examining the big issues of faith and life from a biblical point of view.

You may know that a group of people south of the equator have picked up the banner and are continuing the good work. It was our honor this weekend to be guests on FutureQuake Southern Hemisphere with hosts GK Vader, Andie Tyd, and Crus Ader in what turned out to be a wonderful, freewheeling discussion of transhumanism, dominionism, and why all of us commit so much time to researching topics you normally don’t hear discussed in church.

An early adopter of blogging and then podcasting, Stacy Harp, founder of Active Christian Media and co-host of the daily talk program On The Wall, has been in the thick of the culture war since midway through the Bush administration. Today, Stacy and her husband Randall use the Internet to spread the gospel and analyze the changes in the world around us through the lens of scripture.

Stacy joined us to discuss the development of their ministry, what she and Randall hope to accomplish, and how their journey has changed her views toward some of the big names in American Christianity.

ALMOST LOST in the news cycle already was the announcement last week that the U.S. is sending military advisers–Special Forces soldiers–to Uganda to help chase down the Lord’s Resistance Army, a militaristic cult headed by Joseph Kony. Why now, when Kony has been active in Uganda, Sudan, and the Congo for over 20 years? (See the LRA Crisis Tracker and Derek’s new interview with researcher Tony Kail for details.)

Is there any connection to recent discoveries of oil in the region, or to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s link to the powerful and secretive American “Christian” group The Family? (For more on The Family, see Derek’s interview with journalist Jeff Sharlet.)

Meanwhile, Glenn Beck launched GBTV on the web this week. It took one day for Beck to equate people who question the official story of 9/11 with radical Islamists. Thanks, Glenn.

NOT OUR Sharon, but Ariel Sharon. A 108-year-old rabbi who passed away in 2008 reportedly left behind a prophecy that the Messiah would return when former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon dies. Sharon has been in a coma since January of 2006.
