FRINGE SCIENCE meets harsh reality: Dr. Amy Bishop, the accused killer of three colleagues in the biology department at the University of Alabama-Huntsville, was working on a neural computer, blending human cells with a computer processor into what appears to be the first step toward a living artificial intelligence.
Chris Knowles has summarized the oddities around the Bishop case at his excellent Secret Sun blog. Chris also notes in this post that DARPA is pushing a new robotics initiative that would essentially give limbs to a potentially Neuristor-powered “Cylon”.
