P.I.D. Radio 5/10/15: Theology from Fiction

warrens_shaftTHE TELEVISION series Dig is a well-written and stylish archaeological thriller, dramatizing an attempt by secretive groups of Christian and Jewish zealots to bring about the Apocalypse by destroying the Dome of the Rock, the mosque that is believed to occupy the site of Solomon’s Temple. We discuss elements of the show and the tendency of people — selves included — to incorporate fiction into our theology.

Also: The ongoing bird flu disaster in the United States, a reoccurrence of Ebola in west Africa, implications of sacrificing religious freedom to gay marriage, and Rick Warren’s weight-loss guide named “Christian Book of the Year”.

Great to hear some new shows after the move! The Bible roulette reference reminded me of the example my Pastor gives: A man needing guidance from God opens his Bible and reads: “And Judas went out and hanged himself.” Thinking he should give it one more try he opens his Bible and reads: “Go thou and do likewise.”

Hey Derek–[this is commenting on the Cris Putnam interview]–it occurred to me as you mentioned that the organization called, “Women In The Church”, is known by it’s initials–W.A.T.CH–but, I realized it’s really not that, but instead, it’s initials work out to to be–W.I.T.CH–! Where did they get the idea their initials spelled the word “watch”?! Personally, I think they need to change the word configuration of their organization if they wish to be known by their initials! 🙂

    Great interview with Cris Putnam.

Unlike satan’s “hive-minded” lost souls, God wants to us see the truth of a matter, and once we do that, we automatically will agree with Him about it. With the “hive minded” people, they are to agree with the devil about his view of everything whether they want to or not, or whether it’s right to do so, or not–and, of course, it isn’t, since he stands back-to-back with God, never daring to look into His face for fear of recognizing the truth about himself, like Dorian Grey viewing his long-hidden hideous portrait.

“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

For thou hast said in thine heart,
    I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God:
I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation,
in the sides of the north:..

…I will be like the most High.

15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell,
to the sides of the pit.” [Isaiah 14:12-15 AKJV]
    Amen.
